What is a mood board, sample board, and material board?
Mood Board - A mood board is an effective visual presentation that communicates a general “mood” for a room. It is centered around images of materials that could be used in a room. Typically it is used to ensure that the interior designer and client both have the same understanding of the client’s desired styled space. It can also be used to help the client be 100% sure of their design direction in a room. Items in a mood board are not to be used in the actual space.
Sample Board - A sample board shows actual items, materials and furniture that will be used in a room/space.
Material Board - A material board presents physical samples and swatches to be used. Clients are able to see and touch the samples allowing textures to be highlighted and explored. Samples typically include wallpaper, tile, carpeting, fabrics, etc.
