Imagine, Design, TransformThe final and most rewarding stage of the 3 part series, “Imagine, Design, Transform” is now complete! As with any design project, the last and final stage is the transformation! This is where you see all your hard work come together and where you get to utilize your space the way you’ve imagined. Full circle from imagination to transformation! Transformation From a dark and unused bedroom to a bright and highly functional laundry room! ChangesAs noted in the previous blog post, some material and design decisions may change between the design and transformation phase. This is often due to the ability of being able to see and experience the design as a whole. Scale, color, and adjustments may need to be made. Expect to make changes to designs, but when deciding on pricey materials, be 100% sure beforehand to ensure your money is spent wisely. I decided the pulls that were picked out for the room were too heavy for the design and switched to simple knobs. Of course that decision wasn’t easy, I spent endless hours researching the possibility of unique knobs that would give the space some extra character. However, due to this being a rental, picking out unique knobs that will be versatile for many tenants with different tastes in the future proved to be impossible. Simple, classy, chrome knobs it is. Tenants can add their personality in other ways. Read on to find how! Neutral FriendlyWith only white, chrome, and touches of gray, this neutral-toned room can be customized by tenants to fit their individual styles. Whether they decide to stick with a monochromatic color scheme or splash color into the room, this space can be made their own through artwork, textiles, or accessories placed on shelves, walls or the window. For those who enjoy an abundance of items when decorating, using the uppermost shelf provides endless decorating options! Add a large sign, antique laundry items and other décor items that speak to you. I'm more of a minimalist decorator with a touch of décor, but it would be great fun to decorate that uppermost shelf for Christmas and other occasions. Other PossibilitiesWhen designing this space, I played around with many other ideas for the opposite wall from the washer and dryer: maybe we wanted to add extra storage for cleaning supplies (not needed for an apartment with ample closets), maybe we wanted to add a fold-down ironing board, maybe we wanted to add a table for folding, maybe… maybe… maybe. I decided to leave it open. In a rental, it is important to not dictate too much how someone may want/need to use a space. This room has an adorable, tiny half bath located in it. Tenants may want to use it as an extra dressing room if they have more than one kid sharing a room. Adding a bench, baskets and hooks can change this room into a laundry room/utility room/mudroom that would be highly useful if coming in from the back door from the garage. ConclusionWhen it comes to design, possibilities are endless! Let’s imagine, design, and transform together!
